This is for women and girls everywhere....

Hi family and friends,

Starting November 25th, I’ll be walking for something that means everything to me: the safety and freedom of women and girls worldwide.

Every single woman deserves to feel safe, everywhere, always. And yet, here in Australia, 76 women have already lost their lives to gendered violence just this year.

I’m joining UN Women Australia’s walk to end violence against women and girls. Yes, the funds raised will go directly to UN Women’s essential programs that address and prevent violence, but this activism is about much more. It’s about taking back the day, taking back the night, and raising awareness of how far we still have to go to achieve absolute equality.

We’re in a world where women are not only under threat but are systematically oppressed; from the Taliban’s cruel restrictions on Afghan women to the harsh abortion bans in parts of the U.S. that strip away fundamental rights. These are just two examples among countless others that remind us how precarious safety, freedom, and equality still are for women everywhere.

We have to stand up to these injustices.

Thank you for your support. Thank you for standing with me in this fight.

My Updates

Support the crucial work by United Nations Women and donate what you can.

Sunday 10th Nov

In Australia, thanks to gendered violence:

10 women killed in the past 14 days.

80 women killed in the past 45 weeks.

15 children have also been killed.

In 2023, 64 women were killed.

In 2022, 56 women were killed.

In 2021, 44 women were killed.

On Femicide: women are overwhelmingly killed by men, most often by intimate partners in cases of domestic violence.

While men also fall victim to homicide, they are primarily killed by other men.

When women kill men, it is typically in self-defense or after prolonged abuse.

This underscores the gendered nature of violence against women and the devastating consequences of systemic misogyny.

Support the crucial work by United Nations Women and donate what you can.

I will be walking a minimum of 128 km over 16 days (Nov 25-Dec 10); by walking, with every step, we are claiming our right to be safe everywhere, always.

Even in a country like Australia, this is not a given. Gendered violence is escalating, so we have a lot of work to do.

I’ve hit my initial goal of 1K, so I’m doubling it.

If you have the means, please donate.

All funds go to UN Women’s projects that focus on advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide.

UN Women work with NGOs, government, and communities to create safer, more inclusive societies where women have equal opportunities, rights, and protections.
